The Honorable Theresa W. Chang
Theresa W. Chang is an attorney and Houston-based Commissioner of the Texas Commission on the Arts. She previously served as Judge of Harris County Civil Court. Prior to elected as Judge of Harris County Civil Court, she served as Associate Municipal Judge of City of Houston, and as Harris County District Clerk.
Theresa obtained Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Texas A&M University System and was a registered Professional Engineer prior to earning law degree from South Texas College of Law where she currently serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. She is a Trustee of Houston Grand Opera, and Co-chair of the Women’s Leadership Series Committee of the Asia Society Texas.
She served on the Board of Regents of University of Houston System, was Board Chair of the Chinese Community Center, President of Texas Executive Women, President of the Asian Chamber of Commerce, and Board member of the YMCA, American Leadership Forum, Houston Area Urban League and Texas Governor’s Commission for Women.
Theresa was honored as a 2020 Woman of Distinction and received the George Bush Award from the Asian Pacific American Heritage Association, the Impact Award from the Asian American Bar Association, Distinguished Alumni from the Texas A&M Kingsville, was inducted into the Hall of Fame of College of Engineering and was deemed one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Houston Women Magazine.
Theresa and her husband, Dr. Peter Chang believe deeply in giving back to the community. They served as Chairs of 2024 Concert of Arias of Houston Grand Opera, and also served twice as honorary chairs of Asia Society’s Tiger Ball. In 2019, they were honored with the John Connor Humanitarian Award from Operation Smile and the Top 20 Power Couple Impact Maker Award from CKW LUXE.
