Houston reVision is a safe, supportive environment where everyone can be themselves, find positive role models, and discover that their daily stress doesn’t define their world

ReVision Kinship

  • Community Nights

CommUnity Nights are weekly gatherings at reVision’s southwest Houston headquarters on the Gethsemane Campus of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Every Tuesday from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, Houston reVision hosts dancing and basketball sessions. Every Thursday from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, youth visit their mentors, gather to hear a message of encouragement delivered by a peer, share a free hot meal prepared by volunteers, and participate in hip-hop and breakdance battles. Houston reVision is legendary in the local hip-hop community and known for being original supporters of blending urban dance with remarkable athleticism in what is popularly called breaking. While maintaining the joy of community gathering, reVision connects one kid at a time to caring adults, positive peers, and programs that work like commUnity Night.

  • After School & Summer Program

A typical day for a youth involved in reVision programming might include coming to the reVision Community Center after school, having a snack, and hanging out with friends. On Thursdays, youth can participate in reVision's weekly CommUnity Night, where a live DJ plays music and can learn the fundamentals of breakdancing and other dance styles. Youth may also attend Tuesday night guided dance sessions to receive one-on-one instruction from highly skilled dancers on the reVision staff. If a youth is on the reVision soccer team, they will have organized practice at least twice a week and may also play a game or attend a tournament, usually on the weekends.

  • Homeless Youth Drop In Center

To keep youth off the streets, we began supporting them with housing, food, clothing, and transportation support. These young people are in extreme situations, sleeping outside or on their friends' couches. Some sleep in cars, while others put themselves in dangerous situations with adults who exploit them. The urgency is enormous. These youth need clothes, shoes, food, cleaning supplies, mobile phones, and hygiene supplies. Every one of them has nothing and needs everything to survive. To keep these youth on track to graduate from high school, complete job training certifications, or enter college, reVision assists them with housing, emergency needs, mentoring, and counseling.
